From June 12 to 23, 2024, Kazan hosted the International multisport event “Sports Games of the BRICS countries”. The competitions were held on the eve of the October BRICS summit, which will also be held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.
About the Games
The BRICS Sports Games are an annual multi-sport event organised by the BRICS countries. The main goal of the tournament is to strengthen friendly sports ties between countries based on the principles of equality, non-discrimination and equal access of athletes to competitions.
The practice of holding sports events in the BRICS chair country has existed since 2016, when India hosted a football tournament for the first time. In 2017-2018, the association hosted the BRICS Games in three sports. As part of the Russian presidency, the 2024 BRICS Games were held in Kazan. The capital of the Republic of Tatarstan has repeatedly organized international competitions and has become the center of large-scale events in the world of sports.
Over the course of 12 days, about 5,000 athletes competed in 27 sports in the third capital of Russia. In addition to the BRICS countries, athletes from other countries were invited to participate in the competition.
As part of the BRICS Games, a meeting of the BRICS sports ministers was held on June 22-23, 2024.
