2017 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship

Kazan played host to the 2017 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship on August 23-27, 2017. The matches were played on five competition courts of the Beach Sports Centre located to the right of the Aquatics Palace (70 Sibgata Khakima St.).

The tournament brought together about 128 beach volley players from 33 European countries. As many as 32 men’s and 32 women’s teams fought for the title of the European champion; 28 national and 16 international judges officiated at the matches.

About championship

The CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship is a prestigious high-level sporting event which enables the future beach volleyball stars to show their skills and talent. The tournament is held annually under the auspices of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV).

In 2016, the Championship was held in Brno (Czech Republic), where the German players gained an upper hand in the final match against Russia and won gold. In the women’s tournament, Russia also claimed silver, with the Czech players topping the podium.

The CEV tournaments have already been held in Kazan before – in 2011, the Tatarstan capital hosted the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

Competition results

In the men’s competition Team Russia swept away all the medals on offer: Shustrov/Gusev earned gold, Chukhnenkov and Arkhipov settled for silver, and Shekunov/Ermotik won the bronze match. On the women’s side, the Russian players Voronina and Bocharova captured their European Championship gold medals. Schoon/van Driel, E. from the Netherlands claimed silver, and the Ukrainian pair Lysytsia/Dashevska became bronze medallists.
