1,136 participants from 22 countries, more than 20 records, including one world and two European — these are the main results of the swimming competitions of the II stage “Solidarity Games” held at the Aquatics Palace from 20 to 26 November.
The world record in the 50 m backstroke was set by Kliment Kolesnikov, Maria Kameneva equalled the European record in the 50 m backstroke, Evgenia Chikunova improved the European record in the 200 m breaststroke, and she was only 0.13 short of the world record.
“By the number of records, it seemed that it was the World Championships. I would point out Kliment Kolesnikov, this is the decoration of the championship. Maria Kameneva set the Russian and European records, and Evgenia Chikunova was close to the world achievement. She has yet to do so in the future.
Everyone who was at that moment at the TV screens or the stands cheered for the guys, and these victories will remain in memory. This is the brightest championship in terms of the number of records in the history of the Russian swimming,” Vladimir Salnikov, head of the Russian Swimming Federation, shared his impressions of the competition.
Kliment Kolesnikov and Evgenia Chikunova became the best by FINA points.
Third stage of the competitions comprising swimming, artistic swimming, and diving tournaments, will take place on 8-17 December 2022.
