During the 100% Tatarstan Online Forum, Maksim Denisov, Director General of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects, spoke about the bidding campaign organization for the major international events. The forum has started on August 30 and will continue for 2 weeks during which panel discussions, broadcasts of opinion leaders, interviews, and master classes will be held on the online platform.
The Directorate for Sports and Social Projects is in the big team of organizators on the republican and federal levels and has succesfully organized more than 120 events. These include: 2013 Summer Universiade, FINA World Championships 2015; WorldSkills Kazan 2019 and many more. The Directorate also actively participated in preparation and staging of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ matches.
In course of his presentation the head of the Directorate outlined key factors to take into account during bid preparation. He reminded that May 31, 2008 was a big date for Kazan, when the city received the right to host 27th World University Games 2013. This victory was preceded by meticulous work. It is worth to remind that Kazan have not won the first bidding campaign to host the World University Games. When the Chinese city of Shenzhen won in 2006, Kazan took into account that valuable experience and used it to gain victory in 2008.
“Speaking about our experience in bidding campaigns to host major international events the first and foremost factor to be mentioned is the preparation of every bid – every time it is a unique creative process demanding individual approach on all levels. Sport specifics, federal requirements, and other factors play major roles in the process,” said Maksim Denisov.
Legacy and sustainable development questions require special attention. “Why will this project be profitable for the city and the whole country?” – we need to give the most definite answer to this question on the bidding campaign stage. Our answer will become one of the key thesis for the bidding and implementation of the project. On the first stages of bid preparation we should carefully decide what cities will participate in the project. It is important to keep interest and demand on them after the end of the event.
Successful bid presentation is one of the key stages on the way to victory. “We’ve had plenty of bids and defenses and every time Tatarstan and Russia act as one united team of people interested in the success of the project. Perhaps this is the top secret of our victories,” said the head of the Directorate.
Nowadays the work on preparation and staging of international and national competition continues in Kazan and the Directorate team actively participates in the process. For example, in January 2022 Kazan will host the Special Olympics World Winter Games. This event will attract public attention to people with intellectual disabilities, their talents and abilities; drive the development of the inclusive society and its humanization.
In 2022, Kazan will be among cities hosting the Volleyball World Championships and UEFA Super Cup matches.
The capital of Tatarstan continues to work with FINA and has won the right to host the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2022 and the World Aquatics Championships in 2025. Moreover, sport events under the auspices of the European Swimming League (LEN) are also already planned: European Swimming Championships (25m) in 2021 and European Aquatics Championships in 2024.
