On November 2-7, Kazan will be hosting the European Swimming Championships (25m) in the Aquatics Palace for the first time. The event will bring together 405 athletes from 41 countries.
Competitions will comprise 20 men’s and women’s events (18 individual and 2 medleys) and 2 mixed events (medley).
“Kazan has become the home of aquatic sports in recent years, where the provision of the highest standards for athletes is guaranteed. Kazan hosted a number of major aquatics competitions including the 2015 FINA World Championships and our LEN Junior Championships in 2019, which were outstanding in every way. Kazan has world-class facilities and an experienced team of organisers,” says Paolo Barelli, LEN President.
To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, the championships will run with no spectators. “Match! Strana” (“Match! Country”) (November 2-7) and “MATCH TV” (November 5) will broadcast a live stream.
All events within the championships will be delivered in accordance with the regulations developed based on the LEN regulations, with account for the requirements established by the legislation of the Russian Federation and the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan.
There will be arranged measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection – providing disposable masks, equipping areas for hygienic hand sanitising, measuring body temperature at the entrance, markings to maintain social distance.
The European Swimming Championships (25m) is held under the auspices of the European Swimming League (LEN). On December 7, 2019, Kazan was unanimously selected the 2021 host city at the LEN Bureau meeting in Glasgow. From 1996 to 2013, the championships was held annually yet since 2013, a new schedule has been introduced: from then on, it is staged on odd years only.
In 2024, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan will debut hosting the LEN European Aquatics Championships as well.
