The President of the Republic of Tatarstan personally thanked the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects for its significant contribution to developing the Kazan Volunteers international movement. The award ceremony took place during a meeting between the President of the Republic of Tatarstan and the activists of the local volunteer organisations on December 5, International Volunteer Day.
The attendees included: medical volunteers, V-Day volunteers, culture volunteers, environmental volunteers, tourism volunteers, members of the Silver Volunteers movement, representatives of the Molodyozhka ONF organisation, members of the Liza Alert search-and-rescue team, representatives of the Kazan Volunteers event movement, and winner of the Young At Heart national competition and of the regional leg of the Region of Kind Deeds national competition in support of volunteer initiatives.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that as of today, Tatarstan has 1,247 volunteer organisations with a total of 62.9 thousand members. “These are people who approach life proactively and are eager to make themselves useful to their country, their republic, or their home town. Every day, they find new means of cooperating and helping others in different fields.”
The President of the Republic of Tatarstan also pointed out that the region had always had volunteer movements. But it was during the preparation for the 2013 Summer Universiade that Tatarstan managed to structure the system properly, learning a lot in the process. “You set an example for all of us in Tatarstan. Whatever issues you may face in your own life, you are always ready to help those in need. And we, in turn, would like to go on supporting your every endeavour,” Rustam Minnikhanov concluded.
After his speech, he went on to award the volunteers with commemorative medals of the President of the Russian Federation and the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
