The European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships 2018 and European U15 Championships took place at the Gymnastics Centre (6 Syrtlanovoy St.) in Kazan on February 13-18.

About Championships

The European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships are one of the most prestigious European tournaments. European and world badminton stars, winners and awardees of the European, world and Olympic tournaments compete at the event.

The event was held in Kazan for the second time. The team and junior Championships debuted in the Tatarstan capital in 2016. More than 400 athletes from 38 countries came together at the event. 39 international and 36 national judges officiated the competitions.

The badminton tournaments organised in Kazan aim to promote badminton in Russia and strengthen international sports contacts. Both tournaments are held under the auspices of the Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC).

Competition results

Both the women’s and men’s teams of Denmark stood up for the European crowns. England put up a good fight for gold but failed to outplay the defending champions and settled for silver. Nobody could outplay the Danish women’s team in the history of this tournament. Team Russia and Team Spain enjoyed the bronze medals.

Team Russia earned the biggest number of medals (9 out of 20) in the European U15 Championships, 3 of them were gold. In the final of the women’s singles, Maria Golubeva was stronger than Lida Curtin of England, pairs Elizaveta Baranova and Sofia Bychkova defeated another Russian duo, Ekaterina Kazantseva and Ekaterina Tarasova. Team Russia became gold once more in the mixed doubles.
