The fifth day evening programme of the Russian Swimming Championships in Kazan kciked off with the women’s 1500m freestyle race. Aleksandra Khailova from St. Petersburg appeared to be the fastest with the result of 16:35.38.
“It is just incredible! I managed to improve my results by 20 seconds within four weeks! It is all about training and determination. I got self-confidence, and I did it!” said the swimmer, sharing her impression after the race. “During the lockdown, I exercised at home via Zoom, jogged… It was challenging, but we coped with this,” added Khailova.
Yana Kurtseva from the Volgograd Oblast was second (16:40.47), and Yekaterina Sorokina from the Perm Krai won bronze (16:47.91).
