The World Fencing Championships took place in Kazan from July 15 to 23, 2014.

The tournament brought together over 800 athletes representing 102 countries. 42 FIE (International Fencing Federation) technical officials and 79 national technical officials of different categories officiated at the sporting event. 343 volunteers helped to put on the tournament.

The programme featured three weapons: epee, foil and sabre. 12 medal events in total were contested in the individual and team competitions.

One of Kazan’s major sports venues, Tennis Academy, was re-equipped to host the preliminary rounds. A gym of the Main International Centre was used by fencers for training sessions.

The FIE World Championships are held annually since 1921. Previously, Russia hosted the international fencing tournament two times: in 1966 in Moscow and in 2007 in St. Petersburg. In 2015, the FIE World Championships were also held in Moscow.
