According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan (No. UP-653 dated 05.10.2020), 2021 was announced as the Year of Native Languages and National Unity in the Republic of Tatarstan. The Directorate for Sports and Social Projects coordinated the implementation of the republican plan dedicated to the memorable date.
The purpose of the celebration was to create conditions for the study of native languages, acquaintance and popularization of the languages and literatures of peoples living on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan, nationwide and worldwide, as well as to popularize people’s knowledge about local authentic cultures, history and traditions of different nationalities.
To celebrate the Year of Native Languages and National Unity, executive authorities and municipalities of the Republic of Tatarstan held 9,324 educational, cultural, exhibition and socio-political events.
Сelebrations revolved around all areas of social life, therefore all ministries and departments of the republic, municipalities, as well as public organizations, artistic associations, religious organizations, theater and entertainment institutions, educational organizations took part in the events.
An important role was assigned to activities of the World Congress of Tatars, Peoples’ Friendship Assembly, House of Friendship of Peoples and National Cultural Autonomies.
A special website, 100.tatarstan.ru, was developed and launched to cover events dedicated to the Year of Native Languages and National Unity.
