On October 5, the final meeting of the Working Group for the preparation and staging of the I CIS Games (Kazan 2021), which took place from September 4 to 11, was held.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
The representatives expressed their gratitude to the Russian Federation for the warm welcome and high level of organisation of the Games. The past competitions were perceived as a useful and valuable event for the development of sports and cooperation across the CIS. The representatives of the Ministry of Sports of Russia told about the initiative to establish a commemorative medal in honour of the I CIS Games.
The meeting participants also proposed an initiative to divide sports in the programme of the Games into obligatory and non-obligatory disciplines. The countries hosting the next competitions will probably have an option to add sports popular among their population to the programme.
The representatives of Azerbaijan expressed their intentions to host the II CIS Games. The Republic of Armenia also put forward an initiative to arrange the I International Sports Forum among the CIS countries in October 2023. The purpose of the forum is to develop cooperation in the sports industry across the CIS.
