The show ended with a fiery duel that determined the champion of Games of the Future and the strongest team of Battle of robots in the world. The final took place on Monday, February 26, at the Kazan Circus.
16 teams from nine countries competed for the Trophy, and the tournament began with the 1/8 finals. The losers of the first round later entered the ring once more to determine the final position from the 9th to 12th places, and who will remain in the final four. The best machines had four duels each.
The task of the team is to disable the opponent’s robot in three minutes. If both cars remain operational, the winner is determined by the judges who evaluate the participants according to three criteria: damage caused, aggression, and control. Detailed rules can be found at the link.

DS Robotics vs Daddy Bots – 24:9
The main day was opened by the Russians Energy Girls and DS Robotics from India, who had previously eliminated from the tournament the invincible Chinese Fierce Roc and the most experienced Russian Atom team. The pink Barracuda, beloved by the spectators, could not resist the Indians either. A precise blow of the Godspeed robot already put it on board at the 15th second so that it could not return to movement.
“In the quarterfinals, we damaged the axle. We tried to come up with something all night, but nothing came out. But the Turbomechatroniki team shared one detail with us! Despite the competition, we are all ready to help each other. This is the power of Games of the Future!” said Sanjidhan Mohanasundaram from DS Robotics.
Turbomechatroniki themselves also reached the semi-finals. Their “Putevoy-23” in a collision with the “Daddy” from Daddy Bots flew on board just as quickly and turned out to be helpless.
“In the previous battle, the Turbomasha inflicted great damage on us, our weapons were especially damaged. But during the night it was possible to restore the “Daddy”. The upcoming final is a rematch, because we already had a fight with DS Robotics, and we were defeated,” said Anastasia Yumasheva, a member of Daddy Bots.
While the semifinalists were preparing for the final battles, the teams that lost the 1/8 finals matches returned to the arena. The machines of the Iranian Diaco and the Kazakh Predators appeared fully ready for a new battle. After two minutes of the fight, it was difficult to unequivocally name the winner. There were many collisions, but no devastating damage. However, after another blow, the Predator turned over and, despite the desperate work of the flipper, could not get on the wheels.
The next match once again clearly demonstrated the philosophy of the participants in the Battle of robots: optimism and readiness for mutual assistance, which was mentioned above by the representative of DS Robotics. The Braabum robot of the Brazilian Braabots team was broken into small pieces in the 1/8 finals. But the cheerful team found a way out: they brought the motionless remains of their machine into the arena, and put a small working model next to it! Of course, the little one could not resist the combat Walter Black from the Belarusian Crazy Bunny Lab, but still the fight took place, and the spectators received another charge of good mood.
“The most important thing for us is to be here. The journey from Brazil was not easy – 27 hours on the road, with transfers, with a robot divided into six suitcases. But the atmosphere here is fantastic, we are absolutely delighted and enjoy every minute at Games of the Future. Yes, maybe our robot wasn’t that good, we have less experience than other teams. But even losing should be fun. We are glad that we were able to put on a good show in the first fight. However, it was impossible to restore the robot after that, it was completely destroyed. We thought we could quickly assemble at least a small replacement, but it did not work either. And then the guys from the Inheritors of the Earth team helped us – they had such a mini-robot, and they lent it to us! Yes, it can’t fight, it only rides, but it’s fun too. We hope the spectators liked it, it was also part of the show,” said Braabots pilot Gustavo Riberio Porpino Esteves.
The match for the third place went without any unfortunate falls on board, so everything was decided in a fair fight. The “Putevoy-23” turned out to be clearly stronger than the “Barracuda”. It deftly evaded its attempts to throw and in response inflicted great damage with its horizontal flipper. Energy Girls were forced to admit defeat to Turbomechatroniki.
“Emotions are off the scale! We came third in the most prestigious tournament. It’s worth a lot. The opponents were very strong, we were a little worried. But the final result is already a big victory for us,” Ivan Kozlov, captain of Turbomechatroniki, assessed the performance.
The final was a worthy conclusion to the entire tournament. After a couple of collisions, both participants damaged their weapons – the spinners stopped working. Then everything had to be solved “hand-to-hand”, through pushing and proper use of the platform. At the end of the second minute, Godspeed for the first time pushed the “Daddy” under the auger scrapers installed on board. And this damage became immediately noticeable to everyone in the hall – the Russian robot began to smoke. The fight did not end there. After another 40 seconds, the “Daddy” caught fire! The hall gave out maximum decibels, and the fight continued. DS Robotics once again drove the opponent under the auger scrapers, but it never gave up, maintaining its performance until the last second of the final. But the victory on points remained with the Indians.
“Burning is our tradition. Not in battles, but in training before big tournaments, each of our robots burned at least once, because we are balancing on the edge of maximum power and the limits of our electrics. This time, the auger scrapers pierced the battery, which is why the fire occurred,” explained the captain of Daddy Bots, Artem Yumashev. “It turned out to be a fiery finale. We are always in favor of spectacular fights and are now delighted with how events unfolded. Battle of robots is a show. If we had just been thrown on board, it would have been much worse.”
“We will celebrate now in Kazan, and upon returning home. This victory means that our team has reached a new level. The tournament at Games of the Future is a great opportunity to tell people more about our discipline and make it more popular. We are trying to do this work in India, to create a community for the development of robotics. We will definitely spend part of the prize money for these purposes,” said DS Robotics captain Sanjidhan Mohanasundaram.
The winners began celebrating their success right at the Kazan Circus in the team area, where everyone prepares their robots. Everyone who returns from the ring is greeted with equally loud applause. The participants of Battle of robots are ready to destroy each other’s machines during fights, but they know that they are doing a common thing, and always come to help the opponents.
