On May 5-7, Kazan will be playing host to the Grand Slam 2021 within the IJF World Judo Tour. Tatneft Arena will house the competitions with 14 sets of medals to be awarded. The admission tickets are already on sale – you can purchase them at the KASSIR.RU website and ticketing operator’s box offices. Next week tickets will go on sale at the Tatneft Arena’s box offices. Ticket price for the morning sessions will be 150-200 RUB, for the final block – 300-400 RUB.
This time the Russian leg of the world series will become truly unique for a number of reasons. From the moment the international calendar has resumed, the International Judo Federation has granted the right to deliver the World Judo Tour tournament to 7 countries only. The Grand Slam in the Tatarstan capital will wrap up the top-level tournaments in the run-up to the Olympics in Tokyo and World Championships in Budapest. This implies that right in Kazan the best judokas of the world will test their strength on the threshold of the most significant starts of the year and a five-year span.
On Wednesday May 5, women in -48kg, -52kg, and -57kg categories and men -60 and -66 kg will step in the tatami. Next day, on Thursday May 6, the sets of medals will be awarded to the women of 63kg and 70kg and -73kg and -81kg men. On May 7, the heavyweight men -90kg, -100kg, +100kg and women -78kg and +78kg will wrap up the competitions. Start time of the preliminaries will be defined depending on the final number of the athletes on the draw day scheduled for 14:00 May 4.
It is good to remind that Tatneft Arena has already staged the judo competitions. Back in 2013 its tatami turned out twice victorious for the Russian judokas during the judo competitions of the 27th Summer Universiade, and three years later the European Championships was held here at the venue. Having claimed gold same year 2016, Khasan Khalmurzaev became an Olympic champion and has been capped for the Russian national team.
Live broadcast of the tournament morning session will be available at the live.ijf.org website, evening bouts – at the tele-sport.ru website and Матч!БОЕЦ (Match!Boets / Match!Fighter) TV channel. In addition, the fans can learn more about the tournament and the news at the Russian Judo Federation website – www.judo.ru.
About 200 volunteers will assist the organisers in the tournament staging.
