Anna Chernysheva sets Russia’s new record for young swimmers during 200 m medley race in Kazan

Today, Russia’s new record for young swimmers was set in Kazan’s Aquatics Palace. It was set by Anna Chernysheva from the Moscow Oblast, who finished the 200 m medley race at 2:14.15.

The previous record, 2:14.38, was set in Helsinki in 2018 by Anastasiya Sorokina.

“I am very happy with my performance. My goal was to win and to swim my best and I achieved it,” Chernysheva said. The swimmer commented that swimming was hard after an extensive break caused by the pandemic: “Right now I feel fine, but it was hard at the start: my physical form and muschels were gone, I’ve grown up a little, so I had to learn how to swim again.”

Irina Krivonogova from the Penza Oblast came second (2:14.87), while Alexandra Tsvetkovskaya from the Voronezh Oblast finished third (2:15.36).

The day came to a close with the men’s 4 x 200 freestyle race. Gold was won by athletes from Moscow (7:08.36). The St. Petersburg swimming team came second (7:12.05), while the Tatarstan team won bronze (7:23.14).
