The second competition day of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series in Kazan has come to an end. The Japanese duet grabbed gold medal in duet, and mixed duet saw the victory of the Russians.
Japanese artistic swimmers Yoshida Megumu and Yukiko Inui were the most brilliant in the duet free having scored 93.0000 points. Russian juniors Violetta Evenko and Elizaveta Minaeva finished second (92.6000), while the bronze medal went to Serbian Nevena Dimitrijevic and Jelena Kontic (79.9667).
Aleksandr Maltsev and Olesya Platonova handed a victory to the Russian national team in the mixed duet with the 94.1333 result. Pau Ribes and Emma Garcia from Spain claimed silver with 87.1333 points, while Eduard Kim and Zhaklin Yakimova from Kazakhstan got 81.4000 points and the third place.
“Generally speaking, we are happy about our performance. There is always something to work on and we do our best to enhance the results every time. In principle, we look at the points. In Budapest, we had no competition, and we competed against our scores. Anyway, we are in a subjective sport, where the result means a lot. I’m planning to perform at the Exhibition Gala with an exciting number featuring an athlete from Tatarstan Artur Korshunov – two solos,” told Aleksandr Maltsev after his performance.
“From the psychological perspective, it is really hard for the athletes, since they are exhausted sitting around with no events. Therefore, it was not easy to get to the tournament. We worked from 7 am to 7 pm, hardly leaving the pools after they opened again. In our city we were away from water for almost 8 months, we did everything in a dry swimming hall. We will keep on ‘plowing like horses’ and time will show,” shared the coach of the Kazakhstan team Ilia Kotov.
Highlight and Exhibition Gala are scheduled for the final day of the Kazan stop of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series.
