“The Russian Federation chairs the BRICS alliance in 2024, so this platform is of the utmost importance to our country under the current circumstances. So far, 97 countries have already confirmed their participation in the BRICS Games, which are held on the instructions of the President Vladimir Putin and form an integral component of our country’s chairmanship plan. The upcoming competitions shall be arranged at the highest level. Kazan has vast experience in organising international sporting events. This year, the capital city of Tatarstan has successfully hosted the Games of the Future, and I hope that this tradition will live on with the BRICS Games” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

He reminded about 12 days to go to the Games opening, so it is necessary to complete all preparatory activities.

Aleksey Morozov, Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, made a report on the implementation of measures related to the preparations for the BRICS Sports Games.

“The invitational campaign has been concluded. Entry forms from representatives of 97 countries have been received. We expect about 5 thousand participants, including more than 4 thousand foreign participants. Russian Ministry of Sport has finalised the sports programme with account for the entries received, as tasked by the Organising Committee. The programme comprises 27 sports” he said.

The Deputy Minister also spoke about the upcoming BRICS Sport Ministers Meeting, which is scheduled for 22 June: “The participation of the Ministers from China, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Iran, as well as representatives of the Ministers from India, South Africa, and Brazil has been confirmed. It is planned to discuss topical issues and prospects for further development of sports co-operation between the countries of the alliance, as well as the launch of joint projects in the BRICS space.”

Russia has also developed and proposed the BRICS Kazan Sports Charter to its partners. The Charter regulates the goals, principles, and areas of sports cooperation in the BRICS space, provides for the mechanism of their implementation, as well as the conditions for the Games to be organised by the BRICS chair country.

In addition, the issue of monetary remuneration for Russian athletes, winners and runners-up of the BRICS Games, as well as coaches and experts has been worked out.

“I would like to thank you for your trust and the opportunity to organise this event on the territory of the Republic. Tatarstan has carried out extensive work during the preparations for the Games, and all ministries and agencies have been involved in the process to the maximum extent possible. We assure you that we will make every effort to hold the BRICS Games at the top organisational level and we will fulfil all our obligations” said Aleksey Pesoshin.
