The Phygital BMX tournament at URAM Extreme Park has ended. The participants competed for the Trophy of Games of the Future and the prize fund of $ 150 thousand. They were contested by eight teams – 24 athletes from ten countries.
Following the results of an intense and spectacular competition, the Chain Crew team became the champion of Games of the Future.
In Phygital BMX, teams meet in pairs in a playoff format. Each match consists of three stages lasting no more than 15 minutes: digital and two physical (park and street sites). The stage ends when one of the sides scores three points. The winner of the match is the team that gets 8 points first or scores more points based on the results of the three stages. “For the first experience of integrating BMX into Games of the Future, everything is going cool. There is a show, there are excellent conditions for riders, the spectators are happy, and nothing else is needed. I’m sure things will only get better next time. It is very pleasant to realize that we are at the origins of a new format. After all, I was among the first to announce the domestic BMX. Now I’m watching my “younger ones” perform. They’re definitely having a blast. Even without riding here myself, I enjoy every second,” Konstantin Andreev, coach of OG Rus, talked about his emotions.
The first semi-final race flew by in one breath. Arseny Lyubishkin from OG Rus showed a perfectly honed double flip in the park. Chain Crew responded to this with cool actions by the whole trio and were the first to score eight points, symbolizing the eight letters in the word PHYGITAL.
“We reached the final with an incredible result – 8:3. We were very worried, although we were well prepared. Luck was definitely on our side, because a super team had gathered. My brother Malik is responsible for the balanced tricks in the game, I am responsible for the park tricks, and our third brother Michael Flack does the crazy figures in the street part. The main trick is that our team is just a coincidence. We didn’t choose the squad, it was a draw!” Chain Crew captain Irek Rizaev recalled. “Phygital BMX at Games of the Future is more than just a race, it’s a whole strategy and a system for teamwork.”
The Break The Law team at the digital stage offered Ilya Usoltsev from The Savages a double peg for lowride, which he failed to cope with. Ilya had no such problems the day before, but in the phygital format it is especially difficult to maintain stability, which makes the competition even more exciting.
In the final race, Chain Crew and Break The Law came together. The real jewel of the match became the duel between Irek Rizaev and the Greek Marin Rantes. They performed great tricks, although they set for each other non-trivial tasks, choosing elements ufamiliar for the opponent.
“A global event took place that set the highest standard of quality. Thanks to the organizers for inviting me and the guys from other countries. I will not be tired of repeating that this is an Olympic level, and foreign participants also really like it. I hope such a tournament will be held on the regular basis,” Alexander Miroshnichenko, captain of Break The Law, said with pleasure. “At first, we were worried, we were even scared. But the right tactics helped to cope. Phygital BMX is a team game where you need to study your opponent and hit his weak points. The rules provide to block some tricks, and we used it wisely.”
The victory in the final brought Chain Crew $52.5 thousand. The athletes already have ideas on how to use this money.
“In the first two stages, we were a little bit ahead, and then Mickey completed our performance in the “street” very confidently. It is absolutely amazing, it feels incredible. Initially, we had no idea that we would win, although, of course, we aspired to it. The prize money is huge, the biggest in my life. I think our Mickey will use them to build himself a skate park in the courtyard of his house in Spain. I will definitely come to visit him,” Irek Rizaev summed up the tournament with a smile.
