The Republican Organising Committee for the First CIS Games will be headed by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Edict on the Foundation of the Organizing Committee signed by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan was published on the official website of the Kazan Kremlin.

The Organizing Committee also includes Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Leila Fazleeva, Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, heads of republican ministries and administrations of federal authorities in the Republic of Tatarstan, Director General of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects Maksim Denisov.

The Organizing Committee is to focus on the development of the action plan, analysis of the preparation progress and control of implemenation of the preparation and delivery of the oncoming Games.

As was reported earlier, competitions in 21 sports are scheduled: arm-wrestling, badminton, basketball (3×3), boxing, belt wrestling and koresh, water polo, volleyball (beach), freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, kettlebell lifting, judo, karate, mass wrestling, table tennis, swimming, sambo, Thai boxing, dance sport, fencing, football (futsal), rhythmic gymnastics, and chess. About 280 sets of medals are planned to be awarded.

15 sports venue will be used for competitions. Athletes will be accommodated in the Universiade Village.

The idea to stage the Games of the CIS countries was proposed by the Russian Federation. The proposal was supported during the meeting of the Council of CIS State Leaders in Dushanbe on 28 September 2018. The First CIS Games will be held under the auspices of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (TASSR).
