The competition programme of the second day of the Russian Championships in Kazan continued with the men’s 200 m medley where Ilya Borodin from the Bryansk Oblast took victory. By completing the distance in 1:58.00 he set a new record of Russia. The previous record of 1:58.16 was set by Andrey Zhilkin in Gwangju in 2019.

In the morning preliminary swim Ivan set a time of 2:00.38. “After the morning part I expected to beat at least the youth record (1:59.50), but I did not expect a 1:58.00,” said the champion. According to the athlete, he spent the quarantine very productively: “We almost never had a rest – running and training two times a day. We started swimming in a pool quite early. Now I’ve reached the top of my form for this season,” said Ilya Borodin. “After the championship, perhaps, we will rest and then get ready for the Olympic qualifying.”

The 200 m medley silver was taken by Aleksandr Osipenko from Moscow (2:00.51). Sergey Isayev from Penza Oblast (2:01.03) took bronze.
