The sub-pixels of Super Mario bros and the jumping techniques of Quake called for a perfect performance from the speedrunners on the final day.
That day saw Tesla Squad and speedXATA clash to win the bronze. It was not long till the latter reinforced their status as the favorite. While wandering the worlds of Super Mario, Hamer bro made life real hard for Aleksander Kelnin Tynyanov. Nail st4nzzz Bopezhanov, on the other hand, may have lost this arcade because the lives of his hero expired in the process, but his speedrun was all in all immaculate given the unsafe playthrough techniques that he was using.
“Super Mario is among the most ruthless games even though that everyone knows it pretty well. On occasion the arcade just trolls the players!”, – Aleksander Kelnin Tynyanov said of his “misfortunate successes”.
“I wasn’t looking at the opponent, I was just pushing forward at full speed. Early into the run, I collected quite a number of lives. I knew I was going to die a lot. This is my strategy. A super risky one,” noted Nail st4nzzz Bopezhanov.
Sprinting through the good old shooter Quake, a game which is more than a quarter of a century old, Evgeny xSoapBubble Martynov went with a safer strategy smoothly inflicting wounds and destruction on mystical gods. His opponent Valdemar valdemarka Shkola was following him at his heels skipping all traps and foes and winging it as he sped along. xSoapBubble’s strategy ultimately proved more effective. Everything was decided in a decisive duel in the labyrinths of Resident evil 2 Remake.
Here Anton dakkaduck Belyakov and Dmitry Filonot Novichkov really showed what the Re Engine had to offer. Both were playing Leon through a simple script. It was Filonot who managed to better cope with the task of completing the game in an out-of-the-box and very fast way. The second boss put up quite a fight for dakkaduck while Fil completed the game in less than one hour. The players of Tesla Squad team will be going back home with the bronze, the prize money and joy of victory.
“I’m a big fan of Resident Evil; I’ve watched a lot of streams. At some point I decided to give it a shot. My game today was a pure mathematical calculation,” said Dmitry Filonot Novickov from the Tesla Squad, the winner of the Speedrun tournament of the Phygital Games-3, sharing his experience.
“Every team has a guy like me who really goes all out to make things bad for opponents and I am proud to be one. I didn’t think, though, that valdemarka would be so slow,” Anton dakkaduck Belyakov from the speedXATA team commented on the reasons of the defeat.
GRAND FINAL
The battle for gold and the super Bowl of the Speedrun of the Phygital Games-3 was a mega-race. It was neck-to-neck. Danila AniMeliodas and Evgeny TGR Kurenkov were crushing forward at full clip to save their brides while passing the baton to each other along the way. A series of mistakes on the part of the player made the leader change a few times in the fifth world of Super Mario. At this stage, Mel pressed the wrong key and wound up at the very beginning of the arcade – what a pity!
“Initially, I wasn’t trying to farm up lives and was just pushing forward. At level 5, I just started wreaking ruin. Then I pushed the wrong button and the fifth world was the end of it for me,” Danila AniMeliodas sighed.
The second battle saw a few tie-breaks. If the Cheaters were defeated, the runners from the King of Milfs would win automatically. As movement determines everything in Quake, jumping tricks decided the outcome of the match. Pavel Mekarazium Goncharenko used bunny hopping combinations to dodge enemy fire and pushed on faster than Ilya GrustnikTV Ilyinsky, who showed his personal record here.
“My preparation for the tournament was very intense. I had just one month to work out the most effective strategy. That’s how I found my own style. I showed my personal best result here and for me this is the best result. Bunny hopping gives you a great boost and I will definitely learn this technique”,- Ilya GrustnikTV Ilyinsky said explaining the subtleties of the straf strategy.
“I was full of doubts throughout the entire run. It takes you a lot more than one run or two to get the hang of it. The thing is that bunny hopping is very difficult to master. It is impossibly difficult to get permanent boosts from it. It definitely takes a technical mindset to master this technique,” Pavel Mekarazium Goncharenko said when commenting on his preparation work.
As expected, things were decided in the third round of the final games. The team captains went for a sprint through the Umbrella lab. While PlayBilli from the King of Milfs team was expected to set a world record, fifteen minutes into the run it became clear that no such record would be set. Instead, Aleksey DogMeats Shabalin run around the zombies tangentially and sprinted towards the trophy. At that time, Danil PlayBilli Afanasyev was having difficulties with Ada, and then the mutant Licker gave him quite a hard time. DogMeats ended up showing a result close to the world record and brought a victory to the Cheaters.
“To me, this tournament is an incredible speedrun of Russian culture. I really liked everything. It may have been stressful, but experienced speedrunners are always exposed to stress. It’s not the first time I’ve competed in such a competition and I’ve learned how to handle stress. However, your entire career teaches you how to do it,” Alexey DogMeats Shabalin, the winner of the Speedrun tournament of the Phygital Games-3, said summing up.
