The third day of the Russian Swimming Championship came to a close at the Water Sports Palace in Kazan. Andrey Minakov from St. Petersburg won gold in the 100 m butterfly race by finishing the distance at 51.37.

Egor Kuimov from Tatarstan came second at 51.67. The silver prize winner said that his performance had improved from last year’s Summer Universiade, where he had won gold. “Back then, I finished at 52.0, today at 51.6. I couldn’t do my best, 51.16, today. I’ll keep trying,” the athlete said. Egor stated that despite the lockdown and the time off between the competitions, the performance levels of the athletes currently participating in the championships did not decline; on the opposite, some athletes are setting new records. He added, however, that skipping the training sessions in the pool was hard. “The main thing is how you feel in water,” Egor says.

Oleg Kostin, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, won bronze (51.95).

Anastasiya Klyarovskaya from Moscow came first in the women’s 200 m backstroke, finishing at 2:11.81.

Polina Egorova, Republic of Bashkortostan, won silver (2:15.10). Angelina Nikiforova from the Saratov Oblast and Anna Chernysheva from the Moscow Oblast came third. Both finished the race at 2:15.88.
